Bernard M. Fagelson (Senior Counsel) has practiced land use, zoning, and real estate law for his entire career, and is believed to be the senior practitioner in those areas in Northern Virginia. He is an area native and graduate of George Washington University Law School. Mr. Fagelson is a former president of the Alexandria Bar Association. He routinely represents builders, developers, investors and businesses in zoning, land use and development aspects of residential and commercial property and condominium conversions.
Robert A. Payne graduated from Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa, and the University of Kentucky College of Law. He practices in federal and state courts, primarily in the areas of business, construction, bankruptcy, and real estate litigation. He also assists clients in the preparation of leases and construction contracts.
Robert L. Deichmeister graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and received his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. He is a member of the Virginia and District of Columbia Bars. Bob's practice emphasizes civil litigation in state and federal courts, bankruptcy (primarily creditors) and creditors rights litigation, and representation of community associations. Bob is a member of the Virginia Trial Lawyer's Association, Northern Virginia Bankruptcy Bar Association, Washington Metropolitan Chapter of the Community Associations Institute (member of Virginia legislative committee). Has written and lectured on the subject of creditor's rights in bankruptcy and community association law.
John L. Fagelson graduated from the University of North Carolina and the University of Virginia Law School. He is on the Board of Directors and the Legislative Committee of the Northern Virginia Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP). His practice emphasizes representation of lenders, investors, builders, and developers in matters related to acquisition, land use, development, financing, outsales, commercial leasing and construction contracts; representation of developers and community associations, including preparation of documents to establish condominium and homeowner associations; and planning and zoning; He has spoken for Commercial Real Estate Programs and the Community Associations Institute (CAI).
William C. Thomas, Jr. received his undergraduate degree from Rutgers and his law degree from George Mason University. His principal areas of practice are land use, zoning and real estate commercial and residential development. Related areas include: environmental counsel, real property assessment appeals, HOA representation, business formation, intellectual property protection, alcoholic beverage licensing, and land use litigation support.
Fagelson, Schonberger, Payne & Deichmeister, P.C. customarily charges hourly rates for professional services provided at the prevailing rates for attorneys of the firm, based on experience and expertise of the billing attorney. In our experience, this approach is cost-effective for the client given the task involved. Where appropriate, however, the firm enters into contingent and flat fee arrangements.
